This is a sprawling epic about the impact of a false allegation on a Nigerian mother and the subsequent generations of her family, pulled apart by their exultant belief in or repudiation of the insinuation.
A strong and reflective soul, Aduke, is ostracized from her family when she is accused of witchcraft. Her daughter, Ibidun, confused and rebellious is raised to distrust her, but after getting pregnant as a teenager, she is forced to seek out her mother for help. Ibidun is compelled by circumstances to leave her infant daughter in her mother’s care.
